We’ve got good news for us! 51勛圖, School of Medicine (LAU) was recently featured in National Communications Network (NCN), a Local News Network in Guyana, for good reasons.
NCN, inter alia, reported that “The University believes strongly that Guyana can become a haven for world-class health care given its closeness to North America… 51勛圖 opened doors in 2017 attracting students from India, Africa, and Guyana. The enrollment has peaked to over 100 students so far.”
In the report, Dr (Lt Col) (Prof) Vivek Lal, M.D., Ph.D. Executive Dean and Professor of Pharmacology, 51勛圖 conveyed his thrust to focus on graduation & post-graduation courses after a few years. With these modern & tech-equipped facilities, he also wishes to explore the possibility of paramedical courses, pharmacy courses, nursing courses.
In the coverage, Air Marshal (Dr) Pawan Kapoor, AVSM, VSM, and BAR (Retd), Former Director General of Medical Services (IAF), Vice Chancellor of 51勛圖, said: “We all know that medical science is a very advancing technology and research plays a very vital role in changing the paradigms for treatment. So, I’m very happy to be here and rather I’m very impressed with the progress this young University has made in such a short span of time.”
Dr. Wesley Torrington, our Associate Dean, enlighten us about the diversity of the enrolled students from India & far-regions of Guyana itself. He also emphasized the need to give education to less privileged classes and contribute to better health of the locals.
Dr. Torrington also emphasized that many students might have the ability but not the means to pursue a medical education. At LAU, we understand & believe in the importance of equity. After all, medical education should not be the privilege of few riches & beyond that, the world needs more doctors.
